5 Essential Skin Prep Tips Every Bride Needs to Know!

Your wedding day is one of the most important and memorable days of your life. You'll want to look and feel your best on this special occasion, and that includes having glowing, radiant skin. Makeup can bring your bridal vision to life and pull your entire look together and you will want it to be long lasting and complimenting to that beautiful gown you have spent years dreaming about!

But in all honestly as any seasoned makeup artist will tell you, makeup is only as good as the canvas that is underneath it, and to achieve long lasting, gorgeous results, you will need to put the work in yourself first! To achieve this, proper skin prep is essential. Here are five essential tips for skin prep before your wedding day:

1.Start early

The earlier you start prepping your skin, the better. Ideally, you should start a good skincare routine at least three months before your wedding day. This will give you enough time to address any skin concerns you may have, such as acne, hyperpigmentation, or fine lines.

2.Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate

Hydrated skin is happy skin, so make sure you're drinking enough water every day. Aim for at least eight glasses a day, and consider incorporating hydrating foods into your diet, such as watermelon, cucumbers, and leafy greens. You can also use a hydrating serum or moisturizer to give your skin an extra boost of hydration. One of my favourite serums that I love to use on my clients prior to makeup application is the BOOST LAB 2D-Hyaluronic Hydro Boost Serum. It absorbs into the skin beautifully no matter what your skin type is, and leaves the skin perfectly plump and hydrated with zero residue. You can find it here:

3. Exfoliate regularly

Regular exfoliation is key to achieving smooth, radiant skin. It helps to remove dead skin cells and unclog pores, allowing your skin to better absorb other skincare products. You can exfoliate with a physical exfoliant, such as a scrub or mask, or a chemical exfoliant, such as a glycolic acid or salicylic acid peel. My ride or die favourite masks to use in rotation, are both from Antipodes and they are the Antipodes Halo Skin-Brightening Facial Mud Mask and the Antipodes Aura Manuka Honey Mask. Serious game changers!

4.Protect your skin from the sun

Sun damage can cause premature aging, hyperpigmentation, and other skin concerns. Protect your skin by wearing a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 every day, even if you'll be indoors. You can also wear a wide-brimmed hat and seek shade during peak sun hours. A great sunscreen for face that has a dry touch finish and perfect for sensitive skin is the Eau Thermale Avene Sunscreen Emulsion for Face SPF 50+.

5.Get enough sleep

Sleep is essential for healthy skin. When you're well-rested, your skin has time to repair and regenerate. Aim for seven to eight hours of sleep every night, and try to establish a consistent sleep schedule. If you're having trouble sleeping, try relaxation techniques such as meditation or deep breathing.

In conclusion, proper skin prep is essential for achieving glowing, radiant skin on your wedding day. Start early, hydrate, exfoliate regularly, protect your skin from the sun, and get enough sleep. By following these tips, you'll be well on your way to having beautiful, healthy skin on your special day.
